In this panel session, David Seidl, Violetta Splitter, and Richard Whittington discuss the current hot topics of open strategy research. The session organized by the SAPience Virtual Coffee Circle has received more than 80 applications, proving the contemporary importance of the topic open strategy.
David Seidl introduces the topic of open strategy in comparison to traditional strategy research and elaborates on drivers and enablement as well as dilemmas within open strategy research. He concludes with a list of ten hot topics in open strategy research.
Violetta Splitter gave insights into the hot topic “power and roles in open strategy” by presenting the difference between conventional strategy and open strategy. She explains how empowering and disempowering effects take place in open strategy.
Richard Whittington explains how capability and identity relate to open strategy. With the example of Wikimedia’s open strategy, he shows that will and skill can be a challenge in open strategy. Furthermore, he illustrates that participants in open strategy need to create a capability to participate in the process.
