Another clone of 5DEV MTB cranks - are they crap?

This is the second 5DEV mountain bike crankset clone/copy I've taken a look at. While the previous set were kind of garbage, are the Bucklos/Evosid cranks worth the money?

Let's take a closer look at these cranks and talk about the design, material, weight and more.

Up front, if you ride hard I would probably shy away from these.

I got the Evosid version of those in 165mm in my 180mm enduro rig and I do quite a lot of medium sized drops/jumps and they´re holding up really well. I even managed to snap my frame in half and the cranks are still there without a problem.

in short. bucklos just proves market price is made-up due to economic conditions around the world.. I'd buy the knock offs over the 5Devs $500+ cranks

Besides the R&D some companies do like for example 5DEV, you start to wonder how much markup they actually ask for such products when you see a Chinese manufacturer produce these for $70... Keeping in mind they also need to have some profit on it.

It's just mind boggling how much overpriced MTB products have become the last 5 years. Around 5 years ago you bought a fully decked out Canyon MTB, all high-end components and carbon frame for ~$3500 max. The current prices of sometimes 11-13k is just insane.

With how many snapped 5Dev cranks I've seen Bucklos is probably the same quality

Great comparison video. but you got one thing wrong, 7075 has higher tensile strength than 7050. What 7050 is better at is stress corrosion resistance.

I got the 165mm evosid. Identical to the bucklos

Biggest drawback is only 170mm length.

I spent 5 Dev prices to get into short 155mm arm length (I’m a short 5’6”). If Bucklos starts offering short options, they will be a serious alternative.

What brand is your little torque wrench? Great video

Should have shown the combined weight of both arms plus spindle. You should do an update once theyre installed and ridden for a while.

Interesting video. I hope you do a long term test on these. There seems to be plenty of quality Chinese made parts out there. I bought a set of Diety TMAC knock offs from Ali Express for $40 and they are absolutely great quality and no different than the real $180 TMAC’s I have on another bike

Nice video! Do you know if the bucklos uses the same style of preload adjuster ring as the 5DEV and where I can buy a spare preload adjuster ring? Thank you!

They're both made in China, probably on the same production line.

Not a big fan of Bucklos but I don't see them doing anything wrong, somebody's got to continue to make all the old sizes, I just wish the quality was a little better.

7075 Aluminum is used for small airplanes! The highest is 7500 aluminum for space rockets. That's what I learned from the website of Ghost bikes (Made in Germany).

its interesting but I will keep my current 5Devs over those, for now.

I would not be surprised 5Dev has outsourced to Bucklos for an OEM application. Does Patent Pending really mean anything anywhere? What would 5Dev think they are trying to patent? The fundamental aspects of the design have been around for centuries.

im willing to try the bucklos coz i do casual XC riding, way more appealing than paying upwards of 500 dollars + import tax and dumb shipping prices, im in south africa and ali express funny enough ships items for cheaper than what my local couriers and amazon asks

In businesses its normal to have competitor's but copying other people also is not an option either, but for us riders this is something to be considered, well ...your choice
