Sad to hear this Mike. Wishing you a full knee recovery. Losing expensive and more importantly, valued gear is tough and I think you'll find a way to follow your passion. 👍

Well that’s a bummer, sorry to hear it. Hope your knee gets better soon.

So sorry to hear that. A few years ago I was shooting a timelapse and the tripod with my Canon 5d3 and 16-35L lens on fell over into the river. I had them insured but then found there was a max value of £1000 per item. So as the lens and camera were considered separate I got the £750 that the lens cost and £1000 towards the camera, but a new body cost me £2300. So I was £1300 down. That hurt but doesn't sound nearly as bad as your loss. Re. the high cost of some equipment... in 2019 I bought a specced out Macbook Pro for £3500 and still love it, but I needed it for trips to my boat and the boat insurance didn't cover anything electrical so I just became too paranoid that I'd drop it in the river or get condensation damage, or it would be stolen while I was walking. In the end I bought an iPad to take with me. It taught me that buying gear that's right on the edge of affordabillity isn't for me. It's too much if you lose it/it breaks/gets stolen! I hope your Z9 continues to work and the R8 is a great camera in it's own right! Keep going! :)

Bummer Mike. I have all my gear like triple insured because I know it's only a matter of time before I do something similar and launch some piece of expensive gear sailing. Mack warranties are great and you can also get good coverage by joining PPA. Hopefully your insurance company is able to work with you to replace your gear.

That's terrible. A nightmare for any photographer to even think about. I hope it turns out for you and you'll be able to get back to your passion. But out of curiosity, did you have the Z9 on a strap? Since you "shot putted" it into the water, it sounds like you didn't. I wouldn't think of not having my Z9 on a strap especially if I were anywhere near water.

What do you think about the newly released Z 180-600mm? Seems like a lot of lens for the price.

And Nikon have to get the Z6 III to market ASAP. Slap the Expeed 7 processor in it and the AF features of the Z8/9. I feel that will be a big moment for Nikon removing most reservations people have from choosing Nikon.

Sad. The Canon won't be an equal except in your imagination. I've had them and now on a Z9. next time use a GoPro and leave it to that. No way I'd be risking a quality camera on a kayak.
