After waiting a long time for parts to arrive from eBay, and continued disappointment, the real solution finally came in the mail. The good old 486 Deskpro XE is now ready for action, rocking a CDROM drive and a healthy 3GB Quantum Fireball SE harddrive.

If you like this more hands-on kind of video, let me know!

I have a similar machine and just wanted to let you know the next time you work on the hard disk that the entire bracket can be removed by unscrewing the screw on the riser bracket. This should make it easier to remove or replace the drive.

I have the same box with an DX2 50 MHz, 32 MB Ram, IDE DVD and 4GB CF. It is running Win 3.11 with TCPIP over an old 3Com NIC. I ordered an Overdrive 66MHz and installed an FMtune ISA-card, which will be fun. How ever i was wondering if you got the audio working...?

BTW, you can attach a external CMOS battery, so no need to solder.

Pretends to be in 1994 - Aha! My 560 is faster than your 466! (Promptly has to return faulty P5 processor to Intel and sell house to pay for the machine whilst 466 owner laughs maniacally). I am glad to see that this is pretty much working. I only know Skunny from Save our Pizzas and some other game where he was in a moon buggy (both 2D scrollers) and haven't played them in a while, though I think I still have at least one of them somewhere. As for the way this video was presented, I think whatever works best for you, everyone has their own way of doing things.

I'm embarrassed to say this but I just pried the CMOS battery off of my XE 466 and it came off cleanly.
