Computer simulation for earthquake near Denali, Alaska
Показать описание
This animation is from a three-dimensional simulation of seismic wave propagation in central Alaska. The large green dot shows the epicenter of the earthquake, which occurred on January 23, 2011, near Mt. McKinley. Notice how the waves are influenced by the topography and also by the Nenana basin (Minto flats) to the northeast (near purple dots). The waves are trapped and amplified by Nenana basin. The black lines show the (sparse) road system of central Alaska; Fairbanks is at the upper right. The blue dots show the locations of seismic stations. The simulation was performed on the Arctic Region Supercomputing Center at University of Alaska Fairbanks. The 3D wave propagation code is called SPECFEM3D.
