Every sound he produces is filled with warmth and tenderness, which are expressedby this Ballade at an ultimate level. I cannot stop liking him as a pianist.

Charles-Richard Hamelin is in the top 5 most underrated pianists. His ability to be extremely lyrical with these pieces is amazing.

I don't think anyone has ever encapsulated all that is special about this piece so perfectly. He just nails everything. Pacing, phrasing, projection of melodies, highlighting of inner-voices, striking the balance of restraint and showmanship. Every section is masterfully set up. Never thought I'd say it but I prefer this interpretation over Zimerman who, to me anyway, is the standard bearer of modern Chopin interpretation.

I believe that the Ballades are Chopin's most mature pices and they should be performed that way as well. Charles here did a great job in doing that.
