Why there Are Copycat Characters in Transformers One. 1 thing that you'll notice about the Transformers franchise, its the fact that each iteration re-uses assets for each character. Ranging from the same body types and downright recolors. Such as the Seekers. And in the case of Transformers One there are downright copycat clones. That's right there were multiple instances where you would see copy and pasted characters. For example One of the cogless miners is clearly meant to be Ratchet. Yet the scene after the Iacon 5000 in Iacon's medical center has a voice on the intercom paging a "Dr. Ratchet". And then there's Iacon 5000 winner who was clearly Chromia. But there was a cogless miner who better resembled her G1 design. While it may come off incosistent. Its important to keep in mind that these characters are destined to become the 1s we know by way of their spark that defines them and the cogs that allow them to transform. And look like more akin to the classics.

I like to imagine that in Transformers One, Dr. Ratchet is one of the few Cogged citizens of Iacon who actually cared for the Cogless miners in his own grumpy way and found the Cogged's poor treatment disgusting.

And he knows Orion Pax, who is like The Jack Darby. Being young, reckless and likes to prove himself.

Oh and Jack Darby did drag in Bumblebee to take part of the illegal race like Orion dragged D-16 to illegally take part of the Iacon 5000.

Ratchet is hella busy, working in the mines, working at the racing circuit, working as a doctor

No wonder he's grumpy

Fun fact, the reason why all the Seekers look alike is because it makes it harder for the Cybertronian equivalent to the IRS to figure out which is Starscream... Starscream made all his friends get cosmetic surgery so that he could commit tax evasion...
Edit: holy shit, how the hell did this get 1k likes in just a few Thanks... I guess... idk

I'm fairly certain the cogless "ratchet" is actually prowl, and that the fogless "chromia" is actually moonracer.

Various Autobots and Decepticons with similar body types have been a thing since Transformers Generation 1 and many shows after it follow the trend.

It’ll just be hard to not see ironhide as a grumpy old war vet considering he’s just as young/old as the rest of them

I was so excited by that paging Dr Ratchet sound bit in the theater haha

If you look closely at the racer identified as Chromia, you can see elements of G1 Mirage in their design.

It's funny that Cogged citizens of Iacon are composed of would-be Autobots and Decepticons, and they all joined the newly formed Autobot faction with the former Cogless miners that can transform now at the film's ending.

Megatron unintentionally alienated powerful Decepticon groups such as Stunticons (Motormaster, Dragstrip, Deadend and Breakdown), Vehicon Generals (Tankor and Jetstorm) and Combaticons (Swindle) by going on a rampage with his High Guard.

All because he see the people of Iacon guilty as Sentinel's followers despite they just turned against him by the truth broadcasted to them.

Fun fact: in WFC Trilogy Ironhide's, Sideswipe's, Mirage's & Cog's body types were used for countless autobots.

I thought Rachet was both a miner and a doctor since only the cogless would really care about the cogless. No reason in my head that they cant be one and the same

I mean I think people need to remember that the original story for transformers had the quintessons mass-producing protoforms so there's not a whole lot of variation in G1 lore but for transformers one we all know it was just to you know reuse models a little bit and to make it seem like Cybertron was more full.

i thought ratchet was a cogless bot, who just climbed up the ranks and was more skilled in the medical bay than in the mines.

Two reasons. Firstly, I'm sure they're trying to save money with expensive character designs. Second and more importantly, YOU KNOW HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE BANES JOHN???? Exactly, they just have similar names and looks like people 😂

the medical bay does seem somewhat built for cogless bots, the doorways are short and full transformers have to duck into them to fit, so it could make sense that ratchet has two jobs, both as a miner and a doctor

This was most likely done because it would probably be too hard to create so many different body types and redesigns. I honestly don’t mind that they used the same body types and identical appearances in multiple areas. They should’ve just been more careful with the names. But for transformers, they should make sure multiple characters don’t share the same. It can be confusing and annoying to readers.

In the part where cogged Orion Pax does his little speech to the miners, you can see green and yellow variants of Jazz

It’s basically a Transformers tradition to have multiple recolors of the same character.

Actual answer: to save money and make it easier to animate

This has been done multiple times

For example in the bayformers. A lot of smaller charcaters have the traits of others and even assets. Like how onslaught has stuff from long haul

Acting like the Seekers haven't been clones since the 80s
