The Champeen (1923) RESTORED Clip

Presented here is a clip of a our restoration (with accompaniment by Dr. Philip Carli) of the 9th silent Hal Roach Our Gang short THE CHAMPEEN (1923) which will be included in our soon-to-be-announced THE LITTLE RASCALS - THE RESTORED SILENTS, VOL. 1.

If this clip looks familiar, it's because it was remade into a sound OUR GANG short entitled BOXING GLOVES in 1929.

Scans on over 60 silent Our Gang shorts (of the surviving 88) have been performed to date and we continue to look for better material for at least half of the 60, plus additional material to fill in gaps of missing footage from the scans we already have.

Oh, hiya, I'm here on the word of The 1920's Channel, per his "Good News about Our Gang" video this week. Peachy!

Also, Chris Bungo Studios does Los Angeles "then and now" street comparisons of sites in the show, and I recognize that brick bldg corner probably. The outdoor locations were pretty much in a nearby zone to the studio.

Remade as "Boxing Gloves" in 1929 in sound. Joe Cobb and Farina appear in both.

Mary Kornman is the girl. Jack Davis is the bully who beat up on poor little Jackie Condon. And of course our hero is Mickey Daniels. Later on we see Ernie 'Sunshine Sammy' Morrison as the promoter.
