Dystonia is Curable: Hand Dystonia Recovery Progress

Mid-2019 I started to notice some strange sensations and uncontrolled movements in my right Hand during playing the Accordion. For example: when I played a note with one finger, the other fingers moved uncontrolled and reflex-like. It went harder to move from one finger to the other. The fingers moved reflex-like to play the notes “faster/earlier than they should”, etc.

I didn’t know what was happening and thought, the reason was lack of practice (although I practiced a lot). So I practiced more. More repetition. More aggressive practice.
The whole practicing approach was just wrong and made it just worse. It was emotionally exhaustive.

In January 2020 it got worse so that I had dystonic symptoms in the right hand all the time. While resting, walking, moving the hand, typing on the keyboard, etc. Playing an instrument was impossible.

In October 2020 I was diagnosed with Focal Hand Dystonia (luckily pretty fast due to the experience of my neurologist).

Now, one year into doing the exercises, clear improvements can be seen (see this Video).

There is still a lot to work on. All filigree movements, like typing on a keyboard, playing the piano/accordion, etc. still need more work.

Woo look at you! I have a decent case of this from a bad accident. Caused my head to to contract to my shoulder and hip on one side. For a while I was totally stiff with nothing but nerve pain to feel but after 6 months I got some movement back. Then one day my neck moved my head back on top of my body and my nervous system booted back up! Keep it up! For anybody struggling with this I personally would t have been able to recover without using cannabis to calm the nerves down enough to get some control!

Hello! I have been recovering from focal dystonia for about half a year (I play the bass guitar). At first, the progress was quite fast, but then it slowed down. Although I've already made a lot of progress, I still can't fully play. So my question is: Is it possible that progress in dystonia recovery stops at some point?

Hi. I’m so sorry you’re suffering from this horrible condition. I, too, was diagnosed with a hand dystonia last year. I cannot write, and typing on a keyboard and even on my phone is hard. Did/do you have any problems with writing and/or typing? If so, were you able to find a solution for that? Wishing you all the best in your recovery process 🍀

Hi brother i wanted to ask that whether we can move our hands normally or not after the dystonia attack. I am actually trying to understand that whether i have dystonia or not, i thought i have dystonia but this is something that i can avoid if i stay atone place and i can even feel it before the attack.
Are the dystonia attacks of very short duration?
Don't get me wrong i am just trying to understand what disease do i have
