All of the native plants that we use in landscaping endeavors in the lower Midwest have a rich natural history. They come from distinct natural communities, which are inter-related assemblages of flora, fauna, soils, regional climate, geologic history, and natural processes such as flooding or fire. Mike will present information on a wide variety of natural community types from prairies to forests and their ecological stories, highlighting a number of natives commonly used in native landscaping and how they grow in the wild. A knowledge of the original habitats of our native plants can deepen the inspiration and success of all those who work towards regenerative landscapes, large and small.
