Ok I got this from Google, haven't seen the film and this is basically a summary of the story:
Ruby wakes from a bad dream to find herself in a real life nightmare. She's trapped in a basement, her legs don't work and she can't remember who she is or how she got there. Her kidnapper, Tom, tells her she will remain captive until she falls in love with him. Tom appears to be predicting her every desire, but Ruby focused on trying to escape begins play along.

She never escapes him. He is actually her ex boyfriend, he's a psychopath who is obsessed with her and just wants to terrorize her when she just needs medical care, he even goes as far as to Google her injuries and tries to look after her wounds only making things worst. She manages to stab him with a piece of glass in the end and escapes but she later wakes up in the hospital with short term memory loss and her doctor is no other than Tom.
A true psychopath, a real horror, she never escapes him.

The reason the movie is called 'hippopotamus' is because of a scene in the movie where they are talking about the parts of the brain, and a character called Ruby named one of the parts a 'hippopotamus', and then another of the characters, Tom, corrected her, saying it is actually called 'hippocampus'. And this part of the brain is about memory, and it's responsible for memory, and he's trying to help her regain her memories back.

Sorry, I haven't watched the movie, just heard from a friend 😭
but, ik its smth about a girl getting trapped, and she meets a guy called Tom. He claims to be her friend/ex/lover and tries gaining her trust. The thing is, that we don't know whether what he is saying is true about their past together or not. There is a scene where she believes him (or fakes it) and he takes the chance to have $€× with her, and after that, she grows very mad at him and storms off.

in one scene, the girl stabs him in the neck, and my friend said he was shocked when he came back alive, and many theories say that he isn't human, and its just his soul, and they're in a dream and Tom has to regain her memories because of something important previously happening.
However, we'll never know, as the ending was very sudden, and left many questions unexplained.

The ending: she wakes up in the hospital, and her doctor is none other than Tom. She *never* escapes him. *Ever.*

Ok so there is a 25 year old women named ruby she has lost all her memory and in a room with broken legs a man named Tom tells her she has been kidnapped by him until she falls in love with him. He tells her he hasn't been through her purse which has he personal belongings. And basically breaks a piece of mirror and she keeps it. She starts to pretend to fall in love with Tom. HE asks her if he can get her anything and she said a mattress and a book. Tom knew this was her favorite book and she starts to remember a little stuff. The book has a secret message only a mirror can see and says DON'T trust him. So he keeps getting item to bring back her memory. And he makes her her favorite meal. She remembers it was hee anervesery and that is what they ate then. So basically her and Tom were together before this. They start basically kissing and she breaks down. He tells her every thing. Here it goes she was dating Tom and a man was taking advantage of her and hit her really hard it the head, Tom killed the man that is how she lost her memory. And he realized that if she gets to much sleep she will forget everything again. he kept practicing until he felt confident that he could make her Rember ps they are 10000 miles away from the nearest house. They sleep together (no nudity in the movie just implies) and she stabs him the next morning in the shoulder she runs outside (her legs are healed now) and she passes out. She wakes up in a hospital just to reveal that it is just the same room and Tom pretending to be a doctor. So she never gets away. Ps Tom is lying saying it I a hospital.

It never tells you if Tom was telling the truth. I think he is tho, by the way he acts. I would say this is one of my new favorite movies. Highly suggest
