The year's 1997, I went to a sleepover with 2 Friends. I had brought my SNES to my friend's house, where the sleepover was taking place, along with some game cartridges, including EarthBound. My friends and I played EarthBound ever since we all got to my friend's house, then, My friend's mom comes in The room and says: "Time to sleep guys!" We all checked our clocks and it was already 11 PM! We went to "sleep" (we actually didn't). We stood awake until 3 AM. We arrived at The place where THIS song plays (i don't remember The name) and My friend said: "man, i'm kinda Hungry"(My friend's house has 2 floors). We all went down, and THIS song was playing through My head, and it was dark, we grabbed some bread and cereal. We went up and I had a nightmare because of THIS song.

the juxsteposition of this area relative to the rest of the game, going from adventurous, happy and whimsy, to the most pale, menacing, eerie and serious situation, really nails in the point of how dangerous and formidable giygas really is. people in the game wont shut up about giygas, yet they know next to nothing about it.
the game raised our expectations about the antagonist and surpassed them!

This is why EarthBound takes such a toll on you. It builds you up with wholesome and happy moments before ripping it away from you and showing the true, ugly reality of it’s world. The Sanctuary Location’s Caves, Happy Happy Village, Threed, Moonside, The Desert, Deep Darkness, The Underworld, the finale with this song, and all of the other horrible experiences only make the great experiences stand out more. That’s the truth to living a good life, as the world isn’t just sunshine and rainbows. Lows are required to appreciate the highs.
