Zhukov's 1st Kotluban Offensive Begins | BATTLESTORM STALINGRAD E15

Показать описание
General Georgy Zhukov launches his 1st Kotluban Offensive in the September of 1942, in an attempt to breakthrough to the 62nd Army at Stalingrad. Paulus's 6th Army though offered stiff resistance, and the offensive quickly went wrong. It didn't help that Zhukov was pressured by Stalin into attacking before his forces were ready. But don't worry, the 1st Kotluban Offensive wouldn't be the last.

CORRECTION: Hey all! I've made a mistake in this video. The Volga Germans were evacuated in 1941, not 1942. The source I used (Popov) randomly jumps back to 1941 for one page just to talk about the Volga German evacuations, then jumps forward again to 1942, and I somehow missed the year change. (Totally my fault, but this also reinforces my belief that history books shouldn't be written out of chronological order...) A big thank you to William Kidney for pointing out my error! I will probably make a quick video about this later this week to make sure everyone it brought up to speed about it.

ABOUT TIK 📝

History isn’t as boring as some people think, and my goal is to get people talking about it. I also want to dispel the myths and distortions that ruin our perception of the past by asking a simple question - “But is this really the case?”. I have a 2:1 Degree in History and a passion for early 20th Century conflicts (mainly WW2). I’m therefore approaching this like I would an academic essay. Lots of sources, quotes, references and so on. Only the truth will do.

This video is discussing events or concepts that are academic, educational and historical in nature. This video is for informational purposes and was created so we may better understand the past and learn from the mistakes others have made.

I mention to my dad about yours video on oil and mortar impact on Eastern front. He was commander (logistics and morale not combat) of some 15.000 ad hoc reservist formation in 1999 Kosovo war and artilleryman. He was amazed with details and context. His words: " Men like him in generalstaff are worth their weight in gold".Now i am forced to translate your Stalingrad videos ( he doesnt know about rest of your WW2 videos thank God). 😀

I love how you replaced normal Stalin with panicking Stalin at 26:06. Absolutely hilarious!

The ONLY negative to seeing a brand new _TIK_ *Battlestorm* show up is, that we now have to wait for another one. LOL
Thanks _TIK_ for doing these.

There is an odd feeling I get while watching this series. I know the outcome yet the desperation by both sides and their plans, both sucessful and failures, still leaves me interested and wondering what'll happen next.

Chuikov escaping Germans seems like a running gag from my favourite sitcom narrated by this British guy called "How I Reached Your City"

Basically this guy Freddy "Schmosby" Paulus has a dream of reaching the city that has been dream for years and with the help of his friends he tries to do so but they keep facing funny situations as they go through the motions

It's an excellent watch and I think he might actually take the city (I just hope we won't need 9 seasons to get there in the end)

Incredible. With this detail level about "only" 3 days, I wondered, calculating: that would be 10 episodes per for one month, and the madness of Stalingrad will continue 4 more months, as we know today. Does that mean You plan to do about 40-50 more episodes? With each coming out every 2 weeks, with a Q/A in between, that is 80-100 weeks, or about 2 years of incredible work ahead of You ...
No matter how much we are appreciating this series, please take care of Your health. TimeGhostHistory has a whole team for such type of work that You do almost alone ... I think You are actually in danger to burn out Yourself. Please dont let that happen.
With that said, I can only express my admiration for this gigantic series in most humble words: Thank You.

Hi, Tik!
Many thanks for doing such fantastic series on Stalingrad, my home city. I learned a great deal of details from you series and those details are fascinating!
The one minor detail I'd like to put here is that the map you use seems to be from early1950s. The waterway, "river" to the south of Stalingrad that you could see on all your maps is actually Volga-Don channel, which didn't exists during WWII. The channel was finished in 1948. The map is definitely from before 1952 when the Tsimlyanskaya hydroelectric station was build - at that time the Don flow to the South of Kalach significantly changed.
At the time of battle there were quite a few small rivers, lakes and brooks through which the channel eventually went. I also think there was a general dip in the terrain along the channel bed, but there was definitely no solid water barrier to the south.

My grand was in 84-th rifle division as Junior Lt and seem to participated in that offensive from the north of the city.
His regiment battle journal is available online which I'm reading now. It confirms TIC's description - heavy artillery fire and air support halted that offensive. The regiment reported 53 KIA for 1.5 day of battle while advancing only for 300 meters.
By the end of October, my grand's entire infantry regiment counted only 40 active fighters out of ~800 at the start of september :(

I feel like Chuikov almost dying to German or friendly fire is a recurring theme of this series.

Caught one of your rare errors. when describing Moskalenko's First Guard Army (around the 21:15 minute mark) you state that the two tank corps had lost 250 out of 350 tanks, but the graphic shows 150 tanks remained from 350 tanks. I am enjoying your videos on Stalingrad. The graphics and the information are great.

Paulus: "Shiesse, we lost a lot of good men so far... At least our attack has cut off the Ruskie's forc-"
Eremenko: *"I am four parallel universes ahead of you."*
