For me, what I do after soaking the cup and bowl ones in the boiling water is microwave them so they're not as hard. It makes them somewhat similar to the packet ones.

personally i like the cup ones more bc the shape of noodle is different and i like that one better

i also noticed a different between the packet and the cup ones but i personally prefer the small cups, they're cheesier and have more flavor rather than spice, the packet ones have less flavor but the texture is better

Have tried all 3. I can attest that the large pillow pack, cooked in a pot on the stove according to instructions, is by far the best

It's also the batch they are manufactured in. Because I have bought lots of pillow packs (the set of 5), and each time there is a slight difference. Sometimes the noodles are more chewy, sometimes soggy, like they just melt in your mouth. And sometimes the sauce is also less or more spicy. So yeah, that could also be a case!
