“Racket Sports Players Live Longer” #why

preview_player
Показать описание
Racket sports players, such as tennis or badminton enthusiasts, tend to live longer than individuals participating in other sports, and the reasons are multifaceted. Studies suggest that the combination of cardiovascular benefits, hand-eye coordination, and grip strength contributes significantly to their longevity.

The fast-paced nature of racket sports demands quick reflexes, balance, and agility, keeping players physically and mentally sharp over time. Hand-eye coordination, a skill heavily relied upon in these sports, is associated with improved cognitive function and a reduced risk of neurological decline as players age. Additionally, grip strength—a key element in racket sports—has been identified in numerous studies as a predictor of overall health and lower mortality risk.

Wrong deduction. Only the healthiest & wealthiest people are ABLE to play these high-intensity partner sports. Also those with good eyesight.

I’ve never known a non-rich person to play a racket sport….. guess who tends to have less worries and more free time and better food and health care? Oh yeah the rich. So unless the study specifically controlled for that factor I wouldn’t read too much into the sport itself.

Sounds like a study where checking the details is really important...

People saying correlation is not causation. You're right BUT in other countries tennis and badminton are really not that expensive.

Also the cardio in those is insane. My cardiologist recommended tennis.

It seems like a classic case of social bias
Racket sports are upper class sports

Nah, its because people who can afford to play tennis can afford healthy lifestule and adequate healthcare.
Where were golfers on this list?

I was going to point out that this is a rich person sport, but people beat me to it 😂. I'm willing to bet people who play golf regularly live longer despite requiring little to no effort.

People who are freaking out over racket sport being a " rich people sport "
1. In Bangladesh, pretty much anyone can play badminton during winter, we don't need a lot of "perfect " arrangements or court, we play wherever we can manage space, idk what's going on in the west.
2. You can still compare rich people who do play a racket sport against rich people who do physical exercise but don't play a racket sport.

I am not glazing the study, these are just my questions.

I love how people keep saying it's a "rich people" sport while I, who was pretty poor in my childhood and now I'm more of a middle class, still play badminton 😅

Perhaps it's also because of you can run, grip things tightly, and have good enough reflexes to play racket sports, you were already predisposed to a different life. At 50, i have neuropathy and chronic pain, so I'm not going to play racket sports and couldn't fit into that category if I wanted to. This isn't like a double blind study. It's flawed and biased. Thanks for the info though.

Racket sports are played by more wealthy people and often public spaces prioritise football and basketball and multi function spaces instead of tennis courts

Guys I’m literally dirt poor. I swim in the rivers and play badminton in my uneven yard. You can do activities without having subscriptions to your local country club.

I've been playing for years and grip strength is definitely something I am weak at, constantly hitting the ball only for rhe racket to turn due to the force of the hit, which ruins my shots. (Recently I've gotten a bit better though)

You dont need to be rich to play these sports. You dont need a court. A drive way or empty parking lot work to

My personal theory/opinion (not backed by research) is because playing sports is more competitive than playing them at home, and competitive sports normally put a bunch of strain and push on the body. But that’s just a random opinion
