Wonderful Land - Johnny Lee & The Hurricanes

Vocal version of one of my favorite Shadows tunes. I don't know anything about the band. I'm not quite sure where the record was made. It is a fairly scratchy flea market find.

Johnny Lee and the Hurricanes could always be recognised by the stinging tone of the lead guitar in all their recordings. The rich baritone of Lancelot Layne was icing on the cake with his version of the vocals from the Sound of Music. Ironically, when Lancelot switched to Rapso, one of his early recordings was to complain about local combos faithfully reproducing the original version, saying "if the record has a scratch they playing that too". I loved Johnny Lee and the Hurricanes music, still do.

Ésta melodía está exquisitamente muy hermosa, gracias a la persona, que compartió está melodía. Johnny Lee, le dió un toque diferente al original de los the shadows. Aunque las dos versiones son excelentes.

Brings back memories of a time when the instrumental bands reigned supreme in T & T. Nice !!

One of the top Trinidad string bands of the 60's&70's, vocals were done by Lancelot Layne ; the tune was on the Trinidad charts for many weeks.

This is way before my time, but this sounds really nice, like spanish music. I love the bits of harmony in this, & that's a cool guitar sound too. Great singing too. Really nice song overall.

This is what a great guitar should sound like. To me, this tone has even surpassed The Shadows

Hey Mankkaa43, I just viewed Mike Oldfields. Top class version.

Made in Trinidad. Would you believe that the lead singer is none other than Lancelot Layne; the founder of Rapso music.

Johnny Lee and The Hurricanes ( Trinidad & Tobago West Indies) and Johnny and The Hurricanes ( Toledo, Ohio, USA ) Don't get confused with these two bands of the 60s.

Do you happen to have “Don’t let me down by the deltones combo or “As tears go by” by the Casanova’s combo.
