“U weren’t meant to be a destroyer, you were meant to be a dad”🥹

Love that James used this to wrap up drax’s story rather than the comics version of reuniting him with his family. Instead he gets to heal by being a father to these kids who need him most.

"He makes us laugh and loves us all, how is that a liability?" -Mantis

Drax: -Makes children laugh to calm them down in a crisis

I love Mantis’ little laugh when Drax boops her. It also proves what she said about him earlier is true.😄😊

I completely forgot Drax once had a family, and this scene made me realize just how much of a family man he really was. It made me happy yet so sad to see this scene and remember what exactly was taken from him.

I love how mantis must of felt the joy that drax was feeling interacting with the children why she laughed with joy out of the blue like that this scene made me tear up like many others in this epic movie

I love Drax so much. This movie really put a spotlight on the selflessness of his character. He was a dad all the way down to his core. When Adam Warlock assaulted the guardians, Drax stepped up immediately to deal with the problem. When they were trapped on the outside of that spaceship, barreling towards space, he broke down the door in a matter of moments for them. When they all watched Rocket’s experimentation video, he was checking on the others to make sure they were okay. Not to mention every interaction he had with the kids, and him finally finding his will to dance, once he finally found his place as a father again.

God, I love Drax. The most wholesome dad ever.

This means Drax understood everything the Bat lady on counter earth was saying the entire time lol

Now this is how you incorporate children into the story so the audience cares. Love and thunder just threw them in like a Power Rangers episode trying to appease children but it simply was too goofy and random. This makes you feel the stakes of children’s lives in danger and also fulfills a story arc for drax as a father in pain.

For me, the most iconic scene in the movie. It was in this moment that I started to love him. You can see how he playfully jokes about a certain type of people and how genuinely happy he is inside.

Honestly, this scene reminds me so much of my grandfather. I was maybe 6 or 7 and we were at a family church retreat. There was a really bad storm and while most of the adults were trying to make sure everything was secured, me and all the other kids were taken to an area where it was supposed to be safe. I remember the power going out and a lot of us were scared. But my grandpa showed up with a flashlight, sat down, and just started telling us funny stories and making shadow puppets with the flashlights. All of us were laughing and felt safe with him. He's been gone from my life for 15 years, but I still feel like he taught me how to look after others in very scary situations.

“How’s that a monkey?”

Umm, I’ll do you one better: how the heck do you know what a monkey is?

It’s a weird conundrum this scene because in a sense… it’s both something you wouldn’t expect someone like Drax to do and something that completely makes sense.

One of the two people Drax craved to avenge the most. So much that it fuelled his desire to join the guardians in the first place was his daughter.

Since Drax’s species at least sounded like they were specifically a warrior race we would assume at first glance that Drax would have a warrior kind of relationship with his daughter. Training her and teaching her at a young age how to fight and kill.

But here and Guardians two we see an entirely different version of that. He looks at some pools and remembers a sweet innocent time he took his daughter to the rivers of his home world. With how serene the pools were on Ego it’s suffice to say that those rivers were the same here.

Then we get this scene. The first thing he does. Drax, the Destroyer, the muscle of the group, this big, strong, scary warrior… pretends to be a robot mistaking it as a monkey and not even caring because he’s doing it to comfort some kids that were probably… definitely given the same level of care and treatment Rocket had when he was experimented on.

We see the side that Drax probably never thought he’d get back. Something he most likely longed for even when this other family was forged… the side of a father just messing around with his child.

The Guardians of the Galaxy are a group built on people with soft, loving hearts closing themselves off and showing only a cold, professional or ill tempered shell. Drax is no different. We only see that shell peel away quicker than the others.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who cried during this scene. I never met my father and seeing this scene makes me really hope that I can eventually become a fun and caring dad.
