The official kaupapa (theme) of Te Wiki o te Reo Māori 2024, 'Ake Ake Ake - A Forever Language,' celebrates the enduring resilience, adaptability, and strength of te reo. It also reflects New Zealanders' commitment to embracing and learning te reo Māori well in the future.
✨️ One shining example is Moana and the Moahunters’ 1991 classic ‘AEIOU,’ which encourages us to ‘Akona Te Reo’ or ‘learn the language.’ Although largely overlooked by commercial radio in the 90s, this vibrant song is a heartfelt plea for Māori youth to preserve their culture through language. Plus, it serves as a handy guide to Māori pronunciation.
