*Common issues:*

- the name of your folders or files _cannot_ have capitals letters, *EXAMPLE* or *Motorbike.mcfunction* _will not work_
- make sure your folders are named correctly and in the correct locations; it's *function* not *functions* !
- make sure all your files are saved and you've done */reload* to update your datapack

I honestly have much respect to map makers from the old eras, before datapacks and chained commandblocks were a thing and they had to built marvelous redstone contraptions at spawn to make Minecraft feel like an entirely different game.

Old developer here, playing MC since early days. I've written small Java plugins, worked on ScriptCraftJS and Grakkit. Dislike command blocks, didn't know anything about datapacks.

Thanks for this concise and very good intro! I never took the time to learn the basics of this. Gonna look into it more now. Hope you do more vids - just point to resources and do short examples - no need to do a series on everything That takes precious time that I know you don't have. "Teach a man to fish ..."

Great tutorial this makes me want to have an interesting datapack idea so I can make it. The diamond block example was very clever. And the greensceen effect on the pig/you at the end was sick.

thanks! i never switched off command blocks for the longest time because i assumed syntax was different for datapacks. turns out, its the same as command blocks!
