So many peoples' expectations were WAY too high for Sydney going into this. 49.71 as a season opener with such a clear mistake made in the race plan bodes extremely well for her. Good job Paulino on your continued dominance.

Paulino has a longer stride so she has more left at the end, plus she has a strong kick. Reminds me of Shaunae. Those two will be very hard to beat!

Gonna take a few races to get that race pattern right, congrats to Paulino on a well judged race!

Congrats Paulino. Sydney looked really good. She went a bit too early but I think we are going to see great things from her during the season. I just love to see Sydney stride. A lovely athlete to watch while she is in motion. Not all athletes have that gift

Muchas bendiciones para Paulino por su triunfo y que siga cosechando muchos más y a las demás competidoras por su gran esfuerzo.

Syd looked like she was doing a stamina time trial, because down the back straight she seemed to be pressing on the gas still, when that should be the maintain form, keep pace and settle phase. The gas tank was out by 300m, but still did well to use strength to hang on to the line. Paulinho showed a seasoned formula for the whole 400m

Funny how yesterday everyone was saying Sydney would break the WR. Im glad you can now come back down to planet Earth and actually place realistic expectations on her.

Es de estupidos creer que la unica que podía ganar era Siney cuando habían más competidoras, ahora viene todas las excusas de los fanaticos, señores perdió acepten la realidad y bajense de esa nube y Paulino gano, felicidades.

Good opener by Sydney hopefully she'll improve. Paulino doing well as always. We just need Femke & Britton to really push each other and one these women will hopefully erase that fraudulent WR.

There is plenty of room and time for 400 M newbie McLaughlin to improve her game plan especially in execution and finishing. Otherwise congs to Paulino for her win.

There both great runners but Paulino is the dominant at the moment Mal needs more practice she has a great possibility of owning the 400 flat but for now let's enjoy the big Paulino

Sydney's race was still excellent. The strategy didn't quite work but it was worth a try. It reminds me of Cathy Freeman at the 1995 World Championships in Gothenburg. She went out too hard and blew up. She learned from it and went on to bigger and better things. If Sydney wants to run more over the flat, she'll get better and work out what works best for her.

This comment is going to be here as a remainder for the doubters that Paulino is the actual 🥇in the 400M. Sydney is a beast, but put some respect on Paulino 🇩🇴 button >>>>

She will learn from this experience and make her tactical plans in the future.

I had heard so many comments that Paulino couldn't beat Sydney McLaughlin. I was expecting Paulino to lose to McLaughlin but I was wrong. What an amazing running machine Marileidy Paulino is. Bravo ❤👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

Lol where is everyone that said sydney would easily run 48. Being great in the 400mh doesn't translate that cleanly to the 400m. Those are 2 very different races. Shanae is still the queen of the 400m and sydney isn't even close

This is a fantastic season opener for sydney. With a better race plan and finish she can go sub 49 for sure
