Yep, that's gaff tape, I use it all the time on book spines too!

I love these videos where you show how to do the crafting. You make it seem a lot more approachable to DIY stuff like this. It's weird, since I'm an avid knitter and can't even count the number of sweaters and accessories I've made, but for some reason I have some trepidation about doing anything related to bookbinding. And yet I really want to do it! I have some old journals that are in 3-ring binders and I would *love* to bind them into flat books. I've recently gotten into embroidery and visible mending/sashiko, so I'm getting more confident in my needlework skills. Maybe 2023 is the year I bind up those old journals. :)

These turned out really nice. How fun to use fabric that means something to you as well.

what a great idea. I use Midori books as my journals and planners. Thank you for the inspiration -I have a lot of fabric.

The fabric covers remind me of the liberty covers from hobonichi! I love your idea of using the alphabet. That’s so fun!!

Thank you for modeling a personal solution to making filled Midori MD notebooks "shelf-ready" I'm jounaling in one now, and was wondering how I might dress it up. Nice solution!

The covers turned out really nice. Now they look like vintage books (=
This type of cloth tape is awesome. I've used it to reinforce the spine of old books that had covers in bad shape.
Thanks for the video.

omg that's so cool! 🥰 Recently a shop closed down and they had lots of cool, different fabrics they've sold for almost nothing... I had no idea what to do with them when I've bought a bunch of them but NOW I know! ❤ I'd love to start immediately but it's 10pm here and I have to wake up early though i guess all of the boring notebooks I've collected over the years are going to have new, personalized covers soon 🥰🥰🥰

I covered my Hobonichi notebook in fabric and I love it so much- it’s so textile and it encourages me to pick it up!
I used mostly double sided super strong adhesive and it hasn’t moved after daily use since Dec
I love these fabrics you have 😊

Hi Alicia, your books look lovely. You could make your cover separately and then glue your journal inside using the front and back cover and they would then hide your fabric fold overs. There are some excellent videos on binding book signatures here on you tube.

They look so lovely! I usually just apply the spine sticker that comes with the Leuchtturm notebooks when I archive but these are so unique! Impressive as usual.

They’re so lovely! I used that same b6 slim MD notebook for a bit last year.

This is a nice personal way to be creative with your journals. It made me think about the more recent way I'm handling mine questioning my usual interesting stamp on the front, date on the back and done. Should I paint it? Cover it? Sticker it? All good thoughts and ideas swirling. I have a small devil's advocate (but humble) curious question: I remember when you were boxing up past journals to store in the shed out back you said you don't re-read them. My question is why go to that trouble and care if you don't re-read it, eventually take off the shelf, and store away in a box? (Asking for a friend-📚😉) As a fellow creative I think I already know the answer!
