Redbox was pretty cool back in the day... rent a DVD from a vending machine?? OH YEAH!
The livestream to auction off the movies will be on August 7th at 7pm EST.

I didn’t know Redbox was getting shut down. I remember my dad would rent movies every Friday night to watch alongside some microwaveable popcorn.

Worked for the company, a lot of now terminated employees are left with thousands of movies in their possession.

The one you think is the newer logo is actually the older logo. They also reused the cases so there’s no correlation between the case design and movie age.

Redbox shutting down is going to hurt a good portion of the population that doesnt have reliable internet, which is still a lot more people then you would imagine. redbox was a half assed eye sore compared to blockbuster but damn, theyre just gonna put poor people out of entertainment like that, librarys are getting defunded, what are they supposed to do

I now know how the 90’s kids feel unfortunately, It’s crazy how stuff you experience growing up becomes obsolete like Redbox, VHS, Blockbusters, And tons more. Also the "old" case is actually the "new" case.

You can actually own Redbox kiosks for free. I haven't done it but I've heard that a lot of stores with them basically just want them gone, and if you ask nicely enough they'll let you load it onto your pickup and take it home. Also there's still at least one working Redbox kiosk near me, I checked about a week ago.

I saw a video recently where a former employee from redbox had boxes of dvds. And said the company didn’t say anything about them.

As someone who started renting VHS and Beta in the early 1980s, the passing of movie rental outlets is bittersweet to me. Digital cloud copies are subject to disappearing at the drop of a hat so possession of physical media(even on your hard drive) is essential.

If your wondering, the emoji movie does exist, the thing is though please don’t watch it. It’s one of the worst movies out there.

To my understanding, a lot of the former red box employees were left boxes of DVD’s. Especially those who didn’t receive their last paycheck.

surprising to me that you haven't heard of the emoji movie lol. it was a big meme in 2017 because of how bad it was.

This is why physical media is always better than streaming services, we may never know when streaming service will shut down

This is such a throwback! Redbox was the best! I loved picking out movies on those machines. Brings back so many memories.

Funny thing is I never used Redbox to rent movies. I just used them to buy $4 - $5 used Blu-rays of blockbuster movies like Avengers and Starwars movies. For some reason they are always there. Some Pixars ones too like Toystory.

That disk that says “rental” at the bottom simply means the special features are removed and it’s the movie only. So it’s less valuable than the dvd with special features.

I still keep seeing red boxes around that are working. I just saw someone renting a movie at Walmart yesterday.

As well as other rental DVD discs, the 'red' Sony DVD discs are fairly collectable, for some people. Much like the VHS rental tapes back in the day... Although having to sit through the unskippable trailers isn't always a good thing; at least with the VHS ones you could escape those - by fast forwarding!

I went to the Redbox kiosk in my area.. you can still rent dvds … but they don’t charge your card. My card was never charged or got a receipt when I typed in my email address. I got about 18-20 dvds. I could only rent 3 at a time.
