I've tried to transition to a hawk and trowel but always end up going back to the knife and pan. Whenever I see someone using a trowel, it makes me want to give it a go again.

You have a different method and I might try it on my next few joints. I've never used a 6 inch to cut or clean the edges after using the 10 inch. Thanks for the tip. Might not work for me because I use a hawk/hock (however you spell it) instead of a pan or bucket.
