NIKE AIR ZOOM TR 1 REVIEW | What's the deal with these?

The Nike Air Zoom TR 1 has been an interesting training shoe for my strength and HIIT workouts.

What makes the Nike Air Zoom TR 1 unique is that it features an Air Zoom packet that runs across the entire sole of this shoe. This gives this model a high degree of bounce and responsiveness for things like HIIT.

In my Nike Air Zoom TR 1 review, I put this shoe through a wide range of tests to see if this shoe is worth investing in.

Overall, I like the Nike Air Zoom TR 1 for specific types of workouts but I'm failing to see its utility for most.

For example, I think this shoe will have its limitations for strength sessions and for individuals with wider and flatter feet.

If you want that shoe that can work specifically for classes, HIIT, and some light strength work then this shoe will hit — and it's important to remember that this shoe is designed for that specific scope of training.

Hi Jake,

First of all, thank you for your work. I recently discovered your channel, and it's amazing. My name's Robert and I'm writing from Brazil, and I find your reviews and tips awesome!

I'm a cyclist looking for a versatile shoe for my gym training (mobility, strength, HIIT, and short runs, for example). The information you provided suggests that this model fits my needs, but you mentioned in your video that it isn't your favorite for versatile training sessions. Could you please share which model you prefer?

Thanks again!

Thanks for this review. I also read/watched your review of the Reebok Nanoflex TR 2.0. How do the Nike Air Zoom TR 1 compare to the Reebok Nanoflex TR 2.0? Which would you say is the most versatile for moderate (some heavy) weightlifting, HIIT, plyometrics and short runs?

Hey I appreciate your content. Subscribed a couple months back and have found your reviews helpful.

I notice you review a wide range of fitness shoes. Any chance you could explain why you work out with both barefoot/minimalist shoes and traditional fitness shoe brands (Nike, adidas, Reebok, etc.) that aren’t minimalist? I would appreciate it.

thank you for the review. really helpful. I was looking for a proper shoe next to my metcon 9 especially for days when running was programmed. it is like an add on to my shoe rack. Also did a Murph with it and running part was absolutely great. there was a nike discount and bought it like 50 bucks aboulte bargain.

Hello. First of all, congrats and thankyou for your videos, man. Very useful.

You mention in the video, there are better options if you are looking for just one shoe. Can you mention what models are those?

Exactly my thoughts indeed: nice shoe for beginners and overweight people who are back to training after a long break, my case. I've been doing HIIT at a very intense rate before a work accident that forced me to undergo a rotator cuff surgery: no shoulder, no training 😑 Now that I'm back in the "business" I really enjoy those shoes, they're not THAT narrow to me, and my feet are flat and wide (specially with 25 kilos more than a year ago !). I can't fit in the Free Metcons or Nike Volley Ball shoes like the Zoom Hyperspeed for example, thats' why I do HIIT cardio plyo: I'm a 5.3 "tall" libero that needs explosiveness and speed, flexibility more than weightlifting, my go to exercise at warm ups are the burpees, best warm up for VB players IMHO.

Like I've already said in your other video about these shoes, yeah I agree that they have to be mixed with other shoes like the Nano X1 to X3 (those were my go to shoes for years) that I'll use again when i'll get stronger with these TR1s, and also the Metcon Turbos that are more "barefoot" kind of, when my joint will get stronger. I've got some old but gold Metcon 7s that I love for weightlifting, really strong and stable heel plate. Rotating sure is the key to keep motivation ;-)

Hi Jake,

I bought a couple of shoes to try. These were one of them and I'm still pretty unsure what to buy. I went to the gym when I played American Football but stopped after an injury an decided to focus more on music and university. This year I wanted to start again and look a bit more for my physical and mental health so I got a wellpass from my job and decided to hit the gym again. I don't plan on doing heavy lifting. More lifting with machines and cardio(treadmill, cycling, rowing machine and swimming). I bought a Nike Metcon 9, Nike Air Zoom Tr1 and an Adidas Rapidmove ADV. I'm not really sure which shoe is the best for my needs and struggling to decide which I should keep or if I should look out for a totally different shoe. Sorry for my bad English and greetings from Germany

Thanks for the video. I'm trying to find shoes that have good grip and doesn't slip in group workouts like bodycombat bodyattack hiit. Do you have some recommandations please? I have trouble when the ground gets a little wet.

Hi Jake,

Great review as always. Between these and the MC Trainer 3, what would you recommend for the typical leg day? So no running, just lunges, split squats, leg presses, romanian deadlifts (not super heavy), some squatting etc. I do have a flatter foot (low arch) and I find shoes with an arch uncomfortable. Thank you

Hi, as I am frequently traveling, I need in my baggage 1 only pair of shoes for weights x5/week, some HIIT and 30min-1h walking x3/week

You talk about shoes that are better and also versatile enough to be a one shoe does it all type of thing. Which ones are they? I'm sure the RAD One is one? I'm looking for 1 shoe to do it all so I'm keen on your response.

Are they also good as daily shoes for going out or simply wearing, walking through the city? 🙏🏼
