Biggest reason I was surprised by the Shaggy=Afton "twist" was because I genuinely couldn't fathom the idea of Shaggy being old enough to have a 30-year-old daughter. When the reveal came, I couldn't help but pause the movie to look up the cast's ages. Turns out that Afton's age when he abducted Mike's brother lines up perfectly well with Matthew Lillard's age when he played Shaggy.

The Scooby-doo movie still feels like it was barely 10 years ago. Damn.

no joke, there is something deeply funny about the guy who played shaggy being cast as a weird old man, seen only near the beginning, who happens to be the one terrorizing the weird old children's establishment in a mask and suit to scare the people investigating.
