Logic Pro X 302: Flex Time & Time Correction by Joshua Carney
Video 3 of 21 for Logic Pro X 302: Flex Time & Time Correction

Integrated in Logic Pro X, Flex Time allows you to expand or compress the length of any audio recordings. This is extremely useful for tightening up a musical performance, aligning audio tracks (like vocal harmonies or rhythm guitars), and even for sound design purposes. In this music-driven course, musician, engineer and educator Joshua Carney covers everything you need to master this flexible audio editing feature.

Joshua starts by showing you the basics of Flex Time. You learn about the different Flex Time algorithms, and you discover which one to choose for best result, depending on your audio material. Using lots of varied musical examples, from rock guitars to electronic loops, to keyboards, Joshua shows you all the best ways to quantize, slice and align audio without losing the feel of the original performance. You learn the difficult art of quantizing live multitrack drums, you discover how to align vocal tracks, and you even learn how to use Flex Time for sound design effects.

So join Joshua Carney in this course, and get ready to flex you Logics muscles! This course is a must view for every Logic users!

When i add a marker and move it, logic auto insets a new marker before and after so that my edit doesnt affect the entire track position. How do i disable this auto suggestion?

*TIP* I found I have to do Flex Timing before I do Flex pitch, but Logic wasn't analyzing all the notes when I selected Flex Pitch. I found that when I "re-analyzed" the track for logic to read ALL the notes, I was losing my Flex Timing edits! If this is happening to you, here's a tip I discovered (I'm sharing on here because I'm too lazy to find the right thread in Apple Community and to make a video, but I want to help another lost soul).

Flex Timing edits must be done first and then flex pitch can be edited. If Flex Timing is not commiting, make sure Flex Timing is turned on on the Original track. Copy the Original track, making sure Flex Timing is turned on on Copy track, and then bounce Copy track in place. This will commit Flex Timing edits on the bounced track so that you can open and re-analyze Flex Pitch edits on the bounced track without losing Flex Timing edits.

If the bounced track isn't showing up after bouncing, just save, close, and re-open logic and bounce again.

another stellar video man! OK .. so I'm working on a bass track and the bass hits on the full note and the 7/16 note - so I set it up as you said created all the flex markers .. is there a way to just have it snap every marker into place all at once instead having to go in and drag each individual marker? Thanks.

There surely must be a way to automatically snap the flex markers to the nearest grid location rather than manually? If your timing is just slightly off this would save a whole bunch of work.

how do you add a flex market at the very END of the audio file?? I have added manual flex markers everywhere and dragged each of them to their correct grid lines to time stretch the audio track but I cannot figure out how the hell I do this for the last remaining piece of the audio!! I cannot add a marker there and I cannot figure out how to drag the end of the audio without a flex marker... HOW ANNOYING :( :(

Hey man!

Wondering if you'll be able to help?

I track my guitars to two separate tracks - DI and Wet Signal (to which I route my Fractal AX8).
I use the DI to see whether I am on the time or not (which more often than not I am ain't.. haha).

Is there a way to edit my mistakes on the two tracks simultaneously?
Meaning - to manually edit the transients on the DI track and have it affect the wet signal track as well?

Thanks in advance!

Dude. You are great at this stuff but when I create flex markers and try to move them it ends up making big gaps in the sounds which creates a big pop. When I drag to the right it inserts silence on the left instead of stretching out the wave form. This vid did not help me.
