Hey everyone, DON’T WORRY: Mandarin Chinese is not normally like this. This is a tongue twister, made ridiculously hard on purpose! The point is to practice tonal differentiation. Try listening to the final phrase and following along with the Pinyin. Can you hear the tones as written? If so, you’re on your way to mastering Chinese!

Fun fact… This tongue twister was written by a linguist to demonstrate why Chinese needs to retain its traditional writing system. If you only read the Pinyin pronunciation writing, it can get very confusing!

In Japanese, 死(shi) means "death", but when inflected as 死ぬ(shinu), it means "to die", it also has an imperative form which you shouldn't say for being offensive and that is 死ね("shine", die).
