The Official Video for 'Blue Monday '88' by New Order.

The original single was released in 1983, this later version was remixed by Quincy Jones and John Potoker in 1988 for Quest Records.

Lyrics

How does it feel to treat me like you do?
When you've laid your hands upon me and told me who you are
I thought I was mistaken, I thought I heard your words
Tell me how do I feel
Tell me now, how do I feel
Those who came before me lived through their vocations
From the past until completion, they'll turn away no more
And still I find it so hard to say what I need to say
But I'm quite sure that you'll tell me just how I should feel today
I see a ship in the harbor
I can and shall obey
But if it wasn't for your misfortune, I'd be a heavenly person today
And I thought I was mistaken, and I thought I heard you speak
Tell me, how do I feel
Tell me now, how should I feel
Now I stand here waiting
I thought I told you to leave me when I walked down to the beach
Tell me how does it feel, when your heart grows cold, grows cold, cold

My Dads Favorite songs were these types of early 80s and 90s music, even though he wasn’t an English speaker he jammed to the beat, the lyrics he always tried to sing along he would sing a few parts he would be able to pronounce, he taught me so many good things. Rest In Peace Dad I love you, you’ll always be in my heart Dad♥️. 2-19-1968 - 1-1-24 ♥️💔

Blue Monday: The song that started it all for most fans. The song that gave New Order recognition globally. The song that crushed 12" single sales records.
The song that STILL sounds good 40 effing years later!

This song set the NEW standard for all to come. Depeche Mode took over from here. Honorable mention The Pet Shop Boys.

The song that gave one of Britain’s most iconic bands global recognition. It never gets old.

New Order's signature song still sounds as fresh as the day I purchased it. The Stephen Morris book is a great read, full of self-deprecation, and dry Northern wit.

This was still getting played at Indie club nights in the mid 2000s. Banger.

It doesn't matter where; when I mix this into a DJ set, as soon as the kick comes in, everyone goes crazy. It was a dancefloor filler in 1989 and it still is today.

With the loss of Ian Curtis, 'Joy Division' was no more; yet, they persevered onward with 'New Order' and "Blue Monday" ushered in a new chapter for music and it's as iconic 80's as iconic gets. Their use of synthesizers helped to release a whole new evolution in modern music, that's even felt today. New-Wave 🌊music became the Second British Invasion and "Blue Monday" set the stage for so many other bands.
