It's believable, at my worst point with disordered eating I had a little drawer filled with like 15 different flavors of gum and chewed it constantly

I'm an avid gum chewer and have been since I started a weight loss into now maintenance journey. It truly helps me bridge the gap between meals and snacks, mentally at least. I don't view it as either a meal or snack, but it does help me stay on track.

When i was in the throes of my ED 16 or so years ago, I was chewing gum nonstop to suppress hunger. I ended up getting so bloated from all the sorbitol consumption and then was even more mentally fucked up wondering why I didn't have a flat belly. Needless to say, chewing gum as an appetite suppressant is not a good idea. I actually am a little fearful of chewing gum even now bc I just remember how uncomfortable it felt back then. I prefer to get my sorbitol from fruits now. 😅

I chewed 2 whole packs of gum a day during my ED. I had to ration it out to make it last through the day. Those were dark times. Please eat food y’all

Not only it does not help with hunger but it’s also bad for digestion. I chewed gum when I was super anxious at work and usually ended up full of gases, super bloated, with pain in my jaw and with my stomach making all sorts of uncomfortable noises. Digestion starts with chewing. If you are constantly chewing your stomach releases all the fluids to convert that food that you are not putting in it.

There was another small study in 2015 that also suggests chewing gum improves concentration, resulting in increased productivity. Obviously personal experiences don't equate to science, but I get through so much gum purely for the concentration side of things, either at work or leisure, and finds it helps so much.

This is pretty helpful for healthy weightloss, if youre wanting to eat more regularly as opposes to binging or excessly snacking, and have gum between planned meals!

It could help with indigestion or if you have eaten a lot. You can chew sugar free gum for 10 to 15 minutes after the meal and this will trick your mind into thinking that you are still eating and more food is on the way, so it will speed up the digestion process, or so I was told. I think it’s just because of the extra saliva that is produced thanks to the gum chewing. Saliva does help with digestion. Anyways, it is quite helpful. Just don’t make a habit out of it.

I only chew gum when I'm at the gym because I pull weird faces when I concentrate, and the gum stops me from looking too crazy 😅

I feel vindicated now, thank you! I've always been a gum chewer (blame softball), and once told a teacher it helps me not be so hungry while waiting for last period lunch, to which she responded that chewing gum before lunch would only make one hungrier bc it makes you salivate. She just didn't like gum chewing, but ended up letting it slide bc we were an honors class and knew how to be respectful.

I used it when I was hungry in school. Also use it help with mu over eating problems, (like im already full but still want to keep eating fo to stress etc)

I used to chew a lot of gum mainly to stop boredom snacking but I had to stop because my TMJ got so bad that I cracked my molar in half

My stomach is really sensitive in the morning. Best I can do is a few crackers, granola bar, or oatmeal for breakfast, or else I feel sick. Most of the time, those don't last me more than an hour and a half until I feel hungry again. I chew gum and chug water to hold me over in class until I can get my hands on a real meal 😅

Chewing gum makes me more hungry and I heard that doing it excessively is really bad for your teeth, so I had to quit

My tmj does not allow me to chew gum. But tea helps when I want to eat because I am bored or stressed. Plus I love tea so much so I really enjoy it. If I am still hungry after tea then I make myself something to eat.
