Happy 12th Birthday, Nikita!

Nikita, our Endangered Amur tiger, celebrated her twelfth birthday earlier this month with some extra special salmon enrichment! Keepers placed her birthday treat in a tiger-sized toy that encouraged her to use natural behaviors and problem solve to retrieve the salmon. Nikita worked very hard trying to get her treat and tried a few tactics including drowning it, pouncing on it and seeing if she could just lie next to it and have the salmon magically pop out. She did eventually figure a way to snag the salmon (while keepers weren’t filming, of course!), and was able to enjoy a delicious birthday reward. Happy Belated Birthday, Nikita!
