1x12 systems killer! Deore 1x11 drivetrain with 11-51T cassette. Cheap, compatible, great shifting!

I do use XTR, XT and SLX groupsets, but the 1x11 does make 95% of what the 1x12 drivetrain can. Just see...

I have Deore 1 x 11 on two of my bikes these days. I confess to installing an XT shifter, probably more for looks than real performance improvement. It's all working great. I rotate my chains to even out the wear, which should be low anyway because the cassette is all-steel.
The only issue I had was a bit of skipping in the middle sprocket. Turns out I put the chain and quicklink on backwards without noticing.
Swapped it around and it's all good.
Cheers

This is what I run. Saved money getting new freehub or wheel. Works just as great as I expected

This guy is so PRO, like ... when he explains something, he has an amazing style, you have the sensation that he is an employe or a CEO on one of those bike parts companyes like SHIMANO or SRAM, etc. Also he has like a calm voice.
Good job, you are like: the best and most friendly teacher I ever met or saw
I've learned so many things from your channel over the time

You hit the nail on the head here. Ive used my old 11 speed XX1 with a 28 tooth upfront on a trail/enduro bike. Super light and i never do high speed flat burns.

Thank you for this video. I have now upgraded my ~2015 rig to be 11-51T. I had just assumed that the bike was too old to be able to run a 51. Keep up the good work. Cheers from Sydney, Australia

I have M5100 on two bikes. Works great. Also, even tho the cassette is on the heavy side vs XT, I like that it is naturally colored and it looks like new even after many, many miles after proper cleaning, vs say a black anodised SX/NX.

Yes, there are no-window shifter options.

4 minutes in and more relevant information than in any 20min videos I've watched about this.

Awesome content, Danny! Thank you for sharing so much with us.
This is definitely an option worth keeping in mind for future builds.

While upgrading to deore 5100, keep in mind that 5100 derailleur is made for 11-51 cassette only, and will not work good with smaller cassettes. 5120 derailleur actually works with 11-51 cassette, and if you plan to use different cassettes on the same bike, 5120 is better choice. But again, it will not work great with cassettes smaller than 11-42.

I use M5120 with 11-42 in 2x setup with 46/34t chainrings on my hybrid commute bike. Cheap and works really well. I live in a very hilly area so I got the range and the speed i need with 2x. My shifters also happens to be the one without the optical display and It looks so tidy.

One of these "New Deore" missing in this video is the M4120. Basically the same RD as M5120 but without the clutch and cost only around 35 bucks here. Half the price of M5100/5120

Totally agree, this is what I was commenting with a friend recently, and it is also very budget friendly for people who already had 1x11 before and want to get more range. I previously had an SLX M7000 1x11 with a 30T chainring at front and 11-46 on the back. When this got released got myself a new SLX 12 speed rear derailleur and 11 speed 11-51 Deore cassette. As far as I know the chain is the same in both old SLX and new Deore 11 speed, the SLX rear mech has technically the same range and "unsurprisingly" the SLX 11 speed shifter worked really well with the 11 speed Deore cassette.

For around $100 I upgraded to have more range even comparable with some 12 speed drivetrains out there, I could move to 32T on the front and I am even considering moving to a 34T just like you say, because of that 51T sprocket, it is very friendly for climbing.

Can't thank you enough for this great review....really helpful information... It saved a huge pile of money for me on a new bike setup with very little real sacrifice....for me anyway. Really really appreciate the real bike information. Keep up the great work... Honest, real rider review and information...this is what the internet was made for. Cheers

Very good arguement for the 1x11, with a pleasant, upbeat vibe. Thank you for the video.

I am running 11 speed Di2 on my Levo and it is brilliant. My biggest issue was finding Boost Hubs like the Shimano FH-M8010-B 148 rear hub to run NON Micro Spline 11 speed cassettes.

Your content is pure gold my friend. Keep the good work on!! Deore is awesome and cheap for the quality it deliver. I run a deore 10speed whithout clutch but i tned strenghtened the tension of the spring, whith a smooth sunrace 11/46 nd ceramic alloy pulleys whith 12 and 14t awesome setup and cheap.

I am almost certain that 5100 and 6100 rear derailleur are the same thing. The only difference is the 12 speed word print

Let me first say I really like your content. You allways have a video about whatever project occupies me at a certain time❤.
I few years ago I made the 1x11 conversion with the 5100. Superglad to be rid of the frontderailler!

Yes I absolutely LOVE my 11-51....
My original conversion on my first MTB was 1x10 11-36... the range of my new MTB w 1x11 is insane. Definitely recommend.
Edit; 6:05 beautiful... I love it too man haha.

I use an XT M8000 11 speed shifter with an XT 8100 12 speed derailleur, and a 5100 11 speed cassette. SRAM 11 speed shifters work fine also, but only in 11 speed, not 10 speed. I've run a "SRAMANO" 11 speed drivetrain on several different bikes.
Another trick: You can put XT ball bearing pulleys on Deore derailleurs.

just install the new deore 11/51T cassette, works prefectly, much better and smother than my old Sunrace 11/50T.
