The AWS Institute spoke with Jaimie Boyd, Chief Data Officer for the Province of British Columbia (Canada) and Matthew Cain, Head of Digital for the London Borough of Hackney (UK) about their use of open source technologies in response to the COVID-19 pandemic on June 15, 2020. Also joining the conversation were Liam Maxwell, Director of Government Transformation at AWS, and Peder Ulander, Director of Open Source at AWS Marketing.

During this discussion, panelists describe how open source technologies help governments deliver services faster, with more control, and at scale - making them key assets for governments responding to COVID-19. As a result, more governments are choosing an ‘open source by default’ strategy. To help governments meet these challenges, AWS has launched a new resource called Open Government Solutions, which provides a curated collection of third-party open code, tools, standards and government use cases that are readily available to public sector organizations.
