How To Convert a 3D Model into 2D Templates for CNC, Laser, or Print in Fusion 360

In this final episode in the Fusion 360 design tutorial series, where I've guided you through the process of designing your own model airplane, I show you two ways to create and export your 3D model into 2D templates that can be used for laser cutting, CNC machines, or printed on paper with a desktop printer. These templates can be used in any machine shop or home workshop because the output can be universally used in products like Adobe Illustrator to created printable paper templates as well as Lightburn, G-Code generating software, or CAM (Computer Aided Machining) Software.

Learn how to nest your parts in Fusion 360 and how to prepare your model before you being the nesting, or arranging process.

There are two methods demonstrated in the episode:
-- How to Export your parts to DXF files using the manufacturing space within Fusion 360
-- How to export your 3D model into 2D files for free with the help of an add in and Free Software.

Once you've completed this tutorial, you will be able to use your preferred tools and materials to create the parts needed to manufacture and build your airplane from balsa wood, foam, paper, plywood, aluminum, or any other flat material you choose.

This tutorial does not use the CAM features of F360 nor does it demonstrate how to import the DFX templates for use with routers, lasers, or page layout software. This tutorial only demonstrates how you can get your nested, or individual parts out of Fusion.

Hi Terrance, I really appreciate your way of teaching your knowledge of fusion 360. I've watched all of your movies about designing an aircraft in fusion 360, I'm very impressed. Now my work begins to understand and be able to design my dream model JA37 Viggen, a former Swedish jet fighter. :)

Amazing just amazing I'm so glad I found your youtube channel a year ago. You inspired a lot of people to build better and more efficient aircraft while saving tons of cost and materials.

I've been manually aligning parts of my C-123 to sheets for weeks, which finally also worked, but was very tedious 😬 Thanks to you, I can now learn how to do it much better and how the alignment works practically automatically. I just need to watch your awesome tutorial around a dozen times and I should be able to do it 😄😄 Thank you so much for all the time you spend for sharing your knowledge with us.

Thank you sir. You just saved my sisters bachelor thesis 3D model, which would be impossible to 3D print, but with your help I could "transform" it into a laser cut friendly format... Thank you

Thank you for this video. I was having trouble with the nesting function and this showed me an alterative solution to the automated nesting. Saved me a complete model re-do due to a part having a phantom element that wouldn't allow the part to arrange correctly. Just left a tip for you. Thanks.

10 out of 5 stars on this one....
