Why Did CRED Launch UPI On Their Platform? | CRED Business Model | Kushal Lodha

Why nearly half a decade after everyone else, CRED’s decided to launch UPI?
Let’s dive in.

The reason lies in the NPCI circular released on 4 October—titled “Operating circular for RuPay Credit Cards linked to UPI”. This means along with our bank accounts now our credit cards are also going to get linked with UPI.

So, in near future, all the UPI apps from Google Pay to Phonepe are going to have credit cards linked along with our bank accounts in the app. This is what the future UPI apps are going to look like.

And CRED today looks similar to future UPI apps except missing one thing- UPI
CRED doesn’t want to lack behind- hence CRED Scan and Pay.
