As a football player at the age of 22, Antonio Wright's life changed when a car accident left him paralyzed from the waist down. Despite severe spinal injuries, Wright recovered and earned his physical-education degree from Jackson State University in 2004 and founded the Metro Area Community Empowerment Foundation (MACE), a non-profit organization that seeks to improve the quality of life of disabled individuals. Through MACE, he has developed programs that promote community empowerment through wheelchair sports and recreation, youth mentoring and connection with various advocacies for people with disabilities.
