Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman used the platform of the Pondicherry Lit Festival to address a massively touchy subject for the middle-class. “Why is it that you still have to feed 80 crore people by taxing the middle class?”, she asked the audience, conceding it was a very sensitive subject for the income-tax payers across the country. “I want to humbly submit, reducing the burden of taxation is one thing which I will have to address, and I concede more can be done. I will try to make it more”, she said, adding that the government had to do ‘targeted welfare delivery’ to ensure economic benefits, whether in the form of medical welfare, food or even children’s education reached the 80 crore who needed it. The finance minister, however, said that the additional, updated data from the upcoming census will streamline the delivery of these benefits

Please kindly listen to the whole thing.We as a middle class are not getting any benefit of our taxes in whatever govt department our taxes our going.
1) Sanitation
2)Healthcare
3) Education
4) Roadways
Even the basic needs are not being given to the middle class .
In past 10 years ...the poor peoples condition has become better .
The rich got enormously more rich ..
But can you keep your hand on your heart and say that see " THIS IS WHAT THIS GOVT DID FOR MIDDLE CLASS".

Number of personal income tax payers (not return filers) have increased to 2.24 crore from 1.91 crore in the last 10 years i e an increase of about 16-17% but tax collected has gone up by about 200% from 6.96 lakh crore to about 20 lakh crore. This clearly proves that burden on tax payers has been increased unreasonably by BJP/Modi government.
5 kg free ration was already given to needy people during congress regime under food security bill. There was nothing wrong to provide another 5 kg free ration during COVID but it's continuation for the next 5 years declared by PM in January /February this year just before the code of conduct seems to secure the vote bank at the cost of burdening honest tax payers is not convincing.

Property prices in Gurgaon 3.5 crore avg, no road, entire complex on DG most of the time and residents use water bottle.

It's not just about 80 crore. I'm happy to pay taxes to feed them as long as their fertility rate is not 3, ( like Bihar) where every hungry mouth produces 3 more hungry mouths and ask for more. The rich pay taxes, the poor can only pay by making a commitment to not have children or have one child
