Ok, thanks! Ive been told that Winter mode is like Economy mode too but now i will always use summer on my w210 e200k, more fun, more "feeling" and cheaper! Hehe...

Thank-you :) Boy I've spent a lot on extra fuel in winter mode(722.6) thinking I was being "economical" ! ... Though I did just discover the "Sneaky ECU reset" :)

This is similiar to my expereince. Without the first gear, the engine is going to be less efficient coming form a dead stop since it will lack the first gear power band's max-torque output.

If you have a driving style where you time traffic-lights and never completely stop, you can match the 'S' setting's fuel economy.

W winter ❄️ suspension going up in AIRmatic. S summer suspension stays lower and accelerate quicker to avoid skid rear wheel when you got V8 under bonnet

wow I had always used w mode thinking I am saving fuel....never again, will switch it back into S.Here in England temperature never really goes below 0 celsius therefore I don't really need to pull out in 2nd gear.Doing long highway journeys I could never go below 9liters/100km crusing at around 80mph (130 km/h).thanks for the info mate!!

I have an A4 and my car always starts on 2nd gear for gas mileage and its great. When i put it in Sport it starts at 1st and MPG goes down. But ive done the test and the C280 does horrific on W mode.

I'm in Malaysia and therefore the Winter mode of my W210 (from Britain) is of not much use here. The models assembled for here have the E/S which is more useful, of course. Maybe I should flick it to W whenever I'm stuck in traffic or during short drives. In these instances, power isn't too important and the fuel savings might be significant enough to turn flicking the switch into a habit.

W = Winter
S = Standard (Not Summer ;-)

Have the same gearbox and W / S settings. S does NOT mean sport. It is Standard. No Sport on this gearbox and No paddle shifters. The electronic gear shift variant with manual gear selection does not mean it become manual and faster shifts... This gearbox has nothing sporty in it....
In W there is more slip or no lock up maybe? And more slip means more consumption. It holds the higher gear longer and does not shift down to the lowest possible gear and don't go all the way to the redline. It makes the car become a smooth and lazy cruiser. I like that....
But the first gear whine in S is addictive..

It’s not winter or summer. It’s W for winter & S for standard

S is sport mode, well it is a sports car, W is for winter only

So W-mode = more fuel
S-mode = less fuel ?

i find that S mode opens up the steering wheel and makes it more sporty but the W mode stiffens the steering. I also changed my gear selector and now neither S or W mode works. How do i fix that ?
