Follow these steps to keep the warm air in during the winter and cool air in during the summer.

Warning
Always wear leather safety gloves and safety glasses when working with a heat gun.

Step 1: Remove the window
Remove the window. By taking the window out, you'll save time and have better results.

Step 2: Clamp the window in place
Clamp the window in place on a flat surface.

Step 3: Remove old putty
Remove old glaze with the heat gun and putty knife.

Tip
Use sheet metal to protect the glass if you do not have a heat shield attachment on your gun.

Step 4: Prime bare wood
Use the paintbrush to apply primer to any bare wood around the window.

Step 5: Apply new putty
Apply the new putty to the entire outer edge of the glass with the putty knife.

Step 6: Smooth the compound
Dip the putty knife in mineral spirits and smooth the compound. Repeat this step several times until the compound is completely flat.

Step 7: Remove the excess compound
Remove excess compound from the seam with the putty knife. Wait until it's completely dry and reinstall your newly glazed, more energy efficient window.

Did You Know?
Storm windows can reduce heat loss through windows by 25 to 50 percent.

This is NOT a good example of glazing a window.

They are glazing on the interior side of the sash, and glazing usually goes on the exterior side.
They are using a wooden cheese serving knife instead of a real steel putty knife.
They left out the step of painting the glazing compound.
