HHR Service Traction Service ESC HOW TO FIX ??

This is a 2009 Chevrolet HHR with Service Traction and Service ESC lights on. These warning lights are very common for these Chevy HHR and even PT Cruiser vehicles. This video shows you how I tried to fix these warning lights on this vehicle.

After replacing the timing chain/water pump and buttoning up everything(so I thought). I fired up the 2011 HHR and immediately got the same messages on my dashboard along with about 7 crazy codes. I knew there was nothing else wrong before I worked on it. I checked to see what I missed, there it was..! I forgot to plug in the mass airflow sensor. I was able to clear the codes now. Hope this helps.

My HHR sat for 3 weeks and I left an accessory plugged into the 12V, so the car was dead when I got home. Jump started it fine but have had C0040 SERV EXC and SERVICE TRACTION codes ever since, so I figured maybe its just electrical. Sometimes the lights go out, but now back on. My ODB says RF wheel speed sensor malfunction. So maybe? I cleared the low voltage code by cleaning the hot terminal to the under-hood fuse box, but still C0040. Sometimes ABS engages at low speeds, like stopping at a stop sign.

My 07 clocks 321, 000 miles, I have changed the chains tensioners and tensioners and the power steering module alternator and thermostat twice.
I could get in that car right now and drive with the California, I live in Tennessee and I wouldn't worry one minute of the ride.

I am having the same issue with my '09 HHR. I was hoping it to be a speed sensor but I was told the ABS module is going out, the lights would randomly come on or off or just stay on for days then shut off. Apparently it can't be replaced since it is a discontinued part. I got the codes cleared almost a year ago and now it's popping its ugly head up again. I will try and get the codes cleared again and get my car inspected for one more year. Then it's time to put my HHR to pasture. I am done putting money into it for repairs.

My Malibu Maxx is a tank but I have those lights pop up every so often. It's a bad speed sensor I have had for 3 years.

I also had a Pontiac Torrent that ended up having a bad head gasket but before it did the service traction which I guess was an bad EGR sensor hose it was broke.

I fixed my both my ball joints and general arms in the front same exact car plus the left wheel bearing and my traction control started working and all my lights went off

It's a wheel sensor.. figure out which one and replace the wheel hub. thje sensors can't be replaced separately...

My comes and goes, I drive for a while and it just goes away by itself. Usually comes on when I use my e Brake

To the left hand side engine is not showing a hotter temperature as you're running it. Perhaps temperature sensor isn't working and turning on engine light.

Just clearing the C0550 will not do anything. This code is set by the ECU because of a malfunction. Until the malfunction is resolved, the DTC will not just go away. You will probably have to do some troubleshooting with a DVM to find the culprit. It could be several things. Things like voltage, no ground, broken wires, corrosion.... etc.

The easiest way to remove the codes and warnings is cut the power to the display.

There is no point to watching this. After 4 minutes the proud announcement that he has no idea how to deal with a ESC light being on, it comes to an abrupt end.
