I like basing close to the beefalo so I can run to them when the hounds come and gather manure and fur, but far enough away that they don’t bother me during the spring. (But the rabbits and butterflies they kill are handy to collect!)

I love a beefalo base though. Just near enough to run to during hounds but like, not up their ass so they notice you when they’re in heat. When it starts raining frogs in the spring time, there’s usually a delightful and profitable war that goes on between them.

I always base near beefalos because me and my friends can never survive past autumn...

"But by day 200..." That's cute. I can't get over 50 days.

I didn't know about the meteor area increasing, nice fact. I could also say basing near the ocean is bad due to the pengull spawns you can't remove and inefficient use of space.

I once made the mistake of placing my base near a pond (just far enough to avoid frogs) without realizing that the pile of sticks near it was in fact... a Moose/Goose nest. Most of my base was far enough to avoid aggro'ing the monster if I was careful, but the babies... boy, they ate every berry off of my bushes before I could ever get to them, same case with my jerky racks. I wasn't aware that berry bushes needed to be re-fertilized after a while until that playthrough because the babies ate my berries SO. DANG. OFTEN!

settling near any type of hostile mob is basically a bad idea unless you know what you're doing

also learned the meteor one the hard way

in regard to the ponds, you can eliminate the spawner by burning the little plants around the pond, so they dont spawn any frogs or mosquitoes anymore

When I was a noob I built my base in between two walrus camps, I died very quick during winter.

Dragonfly/Meteor/Shadow Fissure: Fair points.

Beefalo: Don't build the base on TOP of the beefalo, just far enough away that they aren't near you while in heat. Build walls if wandering is an issue. As pointed out in the video, you could also neutralize the aggro during heat by wearing a beefalo hat. Easy manure and wool as a fuel source.

Green Ponds: Might be worth it if you are doing it for the frog legs as well as fish and have access to lots of grass/twigs. Traps will not generate group aggro. I haven't tested this but you could probably pacify treeguards near the ponds too and let the frogs get wiped.

Purple Ponds: Mosquitoes are more of a nuisance than a threat. I still wouldn't build on top of it, but having it within walking distance wouldn't be too bad.

Walrus: Surround the igloo with pig houses and walls.

Basing near Moose Goose Nests is also awful. We were scrambling to find a good spot for a base, and after 9 days of searching I decided to plop down somewhere and it just so happened to be near a moose goose nest, possibly 2. Every Spring was pure hell for us, even after killing them, they would come back, and the babies would rage hard.

Good place to base: near beefalo
Bad place to base: literally right on top of the beefalo (obviously)

Here’s one from personal experience: near the ocean. I summoned the demons of the sea right next to my base and they decided to be my penguin neighbors that winter. They destroyed everything they could :(
