Mikro Chorio & Lake – Evrytania | Greece [4K]

Mikro Chorio is a mountainous village in the prefecture of Evrytania. It is built in a dense fir forest at an altitude of 950 meters on the slopes of Mount Chelidonas, on the slope opposite Megalo Chorio. It belongs to the Kallikratian Municipality of Karpenisi and its population, according to the 2021 census, is 65 residents. It is 17 km from Karpenisi.

Mikro Chorio was abandoned by most of the population, following major landslides that occurred on 13 January 1963 on the slope northwest of the village, causing the death of 13 residents. The residents settled near the Karpenisiotis River and created Neo Mikro Chorio.

The Lake of Mikro Chorio is fed by the small stream that passes outside the Old Mikro Chorio at a distance of just 0.6 km from it. The best time to visit it is from spring to early summer. The waters of the river that feeds it slowly fall in the summer and the small lake disappears. It was formed in 1963 by the landslide that occurred in the village of January 13 of the same year. The location is truly magical and the tranquility that prevails will relax you.
