In this lecture we describe the n-th order linear ODE. In particular, we solve the constant coefficient case by the method of operators. These operators then naturally lead to the annihilator method to motivate the method of undetermined coefficents. General theory is presented, but, not proved. In our next lecture we'll see how variation of parameters extends our reach to many other forcing terms (the technique here only allows us to solve certain rather special cases). Also, in the next lecture we will investigate the linear independence of functions. Please understand, these lectures are best understood if you already have completed linear algebra.
