Greetings from Bergvliet, Cape Town. I love the Golf. As a blind person I was officially introduced to the Golf through someon  I know who lives in Pretoria who has a Golf4 with the 1600 petrol engine. I don't know if she still has it or has sold it as I haven't caught up with her in a while, but although the car's design might be outdated by now I still think of it as the beginning of the modern Golf and I love it! I haven't experienced the Golf 5 and 6 yet but I do believe in the Golf 4 as a good car for people to start off with and work their way up as they get to know the general model more. I'm trying to encourage my dad to look into a 1600 Golf for my mom as my brother will be getting his drivers licence soon and when he takes over our 2011 model 1400 Ford Figo we'll then need to look into something for my mom. Lol.

Excellent review, I took a closer look at the new mk7 as I was impressed by the price here in NZ, what surprised me was the superb interior quality, vw really pushed the boat out here!!. I drove the same 103kw and was impressed with it's athletic feel, certainly no slouch. However I do agree in terms of design, very bland in and out but never the less, very smart.

This new 103kw engine is not supercharged and turbocharged. VW have made the engine simpler by only turbocharging it but has more torque than the old engine.. Its cheaper and more efficient than the 118kw engine yet delivers the same performance. This engine is remarkable.

world car of the year, it certianly is, but the design cannot become more boring than this, allways people like boring cars, eg toyota corolla worlds most sold car-boring, but apart from design this car is much better than taking a mercedes A class or BMW or Audi or anything, so it is the world car of the year
