I knew a man who went AWOL in the early 70s. He turned up 4 weeks later in his home town attending a funeral of his buddy who died in Vietnam. Very sad.
I hope they find him and try to understand what happened.

Everyone who is older can tell you that we have all dug a hole and kept digging, making things worse at one point in our life. Losing rank or a job is not the end-all, unless you make it. Stop, face your fears, be responsible, call your sister. It sucks, embrace the suck.
