I came from a Fujifilm system. I love the smaller system that Olympus and Panasonic offer i like the daily use but dont forget that todays software really helps . Also DOF can be helped even in LR CC

I would advise potential MFT users that as MFT was built to be the first mirrorless camera back in 2008, there is a lot of reasonably priced good quality gear on the secondhand market. Lenses are particularly reasonable. There were 2 different approaches by Panasonic and Olympus/OM Systems. Panasonic went down the stabilised lens route and only switched to IBIS later. Olympus went down the IBIS route, so very few of their lenses have stabilisation. It's therefore best to keep to the same brand for both camera body and lens when starting out.
With secondhand prices being so reasonable, it's best to buy secondhand to start with and you can always get most of your money back if you decide you prefer Panasonic to Olympus/OM System or the other way around later on.
An early Panasonic camera and kit lens second hand could cost around £100/$125/€125, with a 6 month guarantee from a reputable secondhand camera store.
That camera and kit lens will be a step up in image quality from most mobile phone cameras.

I'm in the market for a compact mft camera like the olympus pen range or lumix gm1, but im finding that noone is selling them new any more and second hand prices are very high, at least for relatively recent cameras.

I started down the M43 with a G85 that I got originally for streaming ..then I shot with it and loved the images. Now a proud owner of a GM1. As I work through its menus .... it is robust with options given its size and age. :)

I have been using Micro Four Thirds cameras for many years and I am an enthusiast of the format. That said, in 2024, it's difficult for me to recommend that someone who hasn't used the system yet make the switch. The future of the system is unclear, and there aren't good options in the mid-range and enthusiast levels. With Olympus exiting, making a significant investment to switch to a new system with an uncertain future is not advisable.

I think you covered everything, Gary. I don’t think there is any lens available for full frame that has no equivalent in micro 4/3, except that the widest angle available is 6 mm=12mm in full frame.
We could also add that the ergonomics and the fun factor favor M43.

Nice one Gary. It is only fair to point out though that Om systems seem to have abandoned new pen series options since their takeover of Olympus and our now concentrating on the birding/nature market. The net result is that their cameras and lenses are now bigger and more expensive. Hopefully they will include new smaller and cheaper gear in future but there is little sign of that yet.

Thanks for this video. I’m thinking of upgrading from a Lumix LX5 to a GX85 or GX9.

what the recommended Panasonic/OM small and portable camera foe street photography??

Heloo gary. For me the smaller total smal wwight and size of a mft set up is important. However in certain circuumtanves low light can be a bitboroblematic. Sure there is a trend towards largerer mft camera bodies but the lenses are still small.
