Elounda is a small and popular coastal resort in the north east of Crete. Elound is surrounded by small villages like Tsifliki, Plaka and Elliniko. Elounda Hills, a part of the town, is increasingly becoming a resort for the rich of Europe, Russia, Asia and the Middle East. In the outskirt of Elounda many expensive villas are being developed. Also a new marina will be developed for mega yachts. Elounda exists of the old upper part of the village in the hills (Epano Elounda) and the more modern lower part with the fishing harbour and the beach (Kato Elounda). Elounda municipality (incl some smaller settlements) has a population of 2,200.
