Frankel Calls for Action on Gun Violence After Orlando Shooting
Показать описание
Today, Rep. Lois Frankel (FL-22) took to the House floor to call for Congress to take meaningful action to prevent more mass shootings from occurring like the tragedy at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando in the early hours of June 12, 2016. Below are Frankel's remarks as prepared for delivery:
M. Speaker, once again, the United States Congress observed a moment of silence for the victims of a mass shooting, this time in Orlando, Florida.
• And once again, too many in this chamber remain silent on stopping more of the same.
• Nearly a third of the world’s mass shootings take place in our country.
• And yet this Congress, defying the wishes of our constituents, has failed to take any reasonable steps to keep dangerous guns out of the wrong hands.
• This Congress has failed to ban military-grade assault rifles whose primary purpose is to kill as many people as possible at one time.
• This Congress has failed to close the loophole that lets criminals buy firearms online or at gun shows without a background check.
• And, most shockingly, it has failed to prevent those suspected of terrorism from buying weapons that they could use in the next attack.
• This Congress offers lots of thoughts and sympathies when our people are massacred by firearms, but no action to stop the carnage.
• It’s time for this Congress to do its job before we have to say more prayers for other innocent victims. I yield back.
