This kid made the worst mistake when he said he hacked the PS3. He was popularly known as 'Geohot,' and the number of followers he had was pretty insane. He would hack into popular devices like the iPhone just to see how the companies would react. Most of the time, companies would feel funny and even encourage him to hack their newer products. however things got crazier when he hacked the Sony playstation. Sony saw him sharing tutorials on how to break into PlayStation and decided to take legal actions against Geohot. Unbeknownst to Sony at the time, Geohot was a prominent member of Anonymous. They thought it was a violation of freedom and issued a video warning Sony to stop going after geohot. However when Sony ignored all of this, Anonymous hacked the PlayStation network all over the world. Sony lost $170 million and people were not playing games for a month. However, when Sony made an agreement with Geohot to never hack a playstation again anonymous backed down.

To put this guy into perspective- Geohot and his team invented the term ‘jailbreak’.

First to unlock carriers on the iPhone.

The PS3 was released in 2006 and was widely considered ’unhackable’- people had been trying since launch.

Geohot received his on Christmas 2010. He jailbroke it in January 2011.

George Hotz ... And Dark Alex ... They were pretty big time back in the day. George Hotz actually pretty much invented Self Driving Tech, before Tesla... And he did it with a 600Mhz Cell Phone (one of the Cheepo Android phones you could get at Dollar General in the early years, early 2000's.) and a few ServoMotors ... You still use his ideas Every Single Day, he was (probably still IS) one of the best "Hackers" out there... Dude was a Genius!

Geohot wasn’t a part on anonymous…. He was a random YouTuber who caught the attention of Anonymous when Sony stated that the PS3 was their property entirely, and that nobody could mod it.

We need good hacker groups to keep these big tech companies in check.
