The characters in the game had masks because there were spores and people connected to them pretty easily. Almost like the first reason is straight up bs.

That’s what I thought as well, with all the running and moving around, it might be difficult for the mask to stay put during production. And also, the hassle. But it is definitely a big change. But we’ll see

Maybe they could try filling rooms with more and more spores throughout the series? Besides, I can’t see the existence of spores playing too huge of an effect on the plot.
