The original "Jake From State Farm" commercials from 2011 were a big hit for the insurance company, despite their simple premise. A husband is on the phone in the middle of the night when he's caught by his wife. Who could he be talking to? Why, it's just Jake from State Farm! These charming spots spawned a catchphrase ("Uh, khakis?") and even lured some famous guest stars, like SNL's The Coneheads.

In 2020, State Farm rebooted the "Jake From State Farm" spots, recasting the original Jake. The new ads have also been a big hit, and have featured big stars like Paul Rudd and Drake. But what about the OG Jake? Here's what happened to the original Jake from State Farm.

Do you prefer the new Jake or the old Jake?

I think it's cool the original Jake was an actual employee.

I'm just shocked at the realization that the original commercial is 10 friggin years old...

“We need someone who can tap into a more ‘culturally relevant’ moment”
Say you hired him because he’s black without saying you hired him because he was black

I had no idea the original Jake from State Farm was an actual State Farm employee.. That makes the original commercial he was in even better in my opinion lol 😂

OG jake is still the best, was so chill of SF to cast an actual employee rather than a token actor.

All the commercials that follow the original just go to show how clueless the ad agency was about why the commercial was so funny in the first place. It wasn't the line, "what are you wearing Jake from State Farm", it was the wife's response "well she sounds hideous, " and her her husband's comeback "well, she's a guy, so" that made it a classic. The focus on what Jake was wearing made the other commercials just dumb.

*The new actor looks more like a Kevin than a Jake.*

To me, it was the wife who made this commercial famous with her iconic line "she sounds hideous"

If they wanted to hire a black guy for the spokesman, at least just create a different character. Don't gaslight us with this "Jake has always been black" nonsense. It's like "We have always been at war with Eurasia."

Why not just make a new original character…

They should have stuck with the original one cause he was an original guy, not an actor. He was OG with state farm, a true employee for the company

I told my husband Jake from State Farm was white! You never forget that classic line “umm khakis?!”

You should've given the new guy a new name. Just makes it stupid. Jake was awesome. No one uses down to earth people anymore.

Don't let Jake fool you about State Farm. As a long time policy holder of State Farm, State Farm spends considerable effect to contest or find fault with claims. Don't ever think that they have good faith or an honorable organization.

This is sad. The original Jake was friends with my brother in Bloomington, IL and his mom was my 5th grade teacher at colene hoose elementary. Hope they take care of him.

Somehow I have a feeling that if black Jake was the actual employee he would not have been replaced with a white actor! Gut feeling

"Tap into a culturally relevant moment"

Jesus Christ, that's an incredibly tortured way of saying "he needed to be black"
